History
Precinct2gether started in 1975 as the East Harris County Senior Citizens (EHCSC) program under the stewardship of then-Commissioner Jim Fonteno. With a charitable purpose to serve the needs of seniors, it was granted tax-exempt status by the IRS as a non-profit corporation in 1979. In 2007, EHCSC broadened its purpose to serve veterans and youth, and was renamed Precinct2gether. In 2008, the Commissioners Court unanimously recognized Precinct2gether’s affiliation with Precinct 2 and Harris County. The Commissioners Court authorized Harris County to provide the services of County employees as well as space, equipment, supplies and related services to further our delivery of social services to residents. Today, Precinct2gether’s mission is fulfilled at Precinct 2’s ten community centers, over 50 parks, and through many special programs.
